{This time last year...}

Around this time last year it was snowing pretty heavily. I had plans to go to the Chatfield Botanic Gardens for their Christmas lights show while our friends were going to the Denver Zoo lights and I was going with the guy I liked. Well, it was snowing so bad, and I was to drive, that we decided to only go to dinner and then head back to my place and play Dance on the XBOX. It was extremely fun and I had a blast. As the guy was leaving for the night though, I walked him to his car in the snow to talk to him since my roommate was home (it was a private conversation). I wanted to know what we were doing and that I was not looking for a friends with benefits type of relationship. I said dating was fine and then we could figure out what we wanted. He said, "Then we're dating." and I got the sweetest kiss before he left. A few weeks later, I got a text from him that was pretty dramatic and essentially said he no longer wanted to date.   I was pretty upset by this and the way he went about it.

Anyway, a few months later, I started hanging out pretty regularly with a friend and began liking him. We also talked about it but things didn't work out.  Oh well, no big deal.

Now, here I am a year later and I just let me online dating site run out and I won't renew it. I've been texting the South African guy pretty regularly still and, yet again, he invited me over to his place.  What I know, without a doubt, is I will not meet this guy in the privacy of his home but out in public. I know what I want and, dammit, I will not settle.

I was reflecting just a little bit ago on this time last year and what I was doing. I was single then and I'm single now. No biggie.  I got this.  As depressing as it is at times (LOL), I got this.

{Serial Killer}

Funny conversation... I think so anyway.  So, I've been texting back and forth with a guy from eHarmony.  We haven't made any plans to meet yet, but have been talking almost non-stop for 2-3 days or so. He seems ok so far. Anyway, so yesterday he tried getting me to go to his place to meet and have a beer. I'd said I was already eating and drinking a beer myself and had to be at work at 5 a.m. this morning (all true stories). I did say that he'll have to give better notice next time. So, today after I get out of work I have a text from him inviting me over to watch a movie with him and his 2 year old son.  I told him we'd have to meet in public first. He was okay with that. Then this happened and I just think it's funny...

He's yellow, I'm blue...

Later in the conversation...
Great, Nicole. LOL  Anyway, so a little background info on him....

  • he's from South Africa, but a U.S. citizen now (I think)
  • he has a 2 year old son
  • his brother and parents now live here as well
  • um, that's all I really, truly know
So, with only knowing that information, I'm not going to meet a guy for the first time from the internet at his HOME.  Hello. I know I make mistakes, I can make really dumb and bad mistakes, but I'm usually DRUNK for those!! hahahaha

Anyway, if he's truly interested, he'll plan something else in public.

We shall see.

{Taco Pizza}

Amazing. Delicious. Yummy.  Pleasing. Delightful. Spicy. Enticing. Enjoyable. Tasteful. Scrumptious. Umm... I'm trying to think of more words to describe this dish. Yowzers! It's got to be one of the best things I've made and tasted (second only to the caramel apple pie I make).  I kind of halved the recipe. Instead of two cans of crescent rolls, I used only one. I also used cutup rotisserie chicken instead of the turkey (I didn't really feel like cooking), and I used a can of Rotel Hot Tomatoes.  I also cheated and bought a small can of sliced, black olives.  Anyway, with the chicken, all I did was cut it up, add some water and a few shakes of a packet of taco seasoning in a pan to heat it up.  This dish was absolutely amazing.  I will always and forever come back to this as something to just quickly throw together.

{I heart Charming Charlie's}

Seriously, Charming Charlie's has the cutest things!  I finally returned Mama's red shirt I'd bought from there. I also then found my own red shirt and the most adorable winter coat!  It's supposed to get cooler this weekend and snow on Sunday, so I can't wait to wear it!!  :)

25 Ways to Wear a Scarf in 4.5 Minutes!

I just watched this video on Yasi's Hello, Gorgeus! blog and I'll use it always! What a helpful video!!

{Lazy, boring day}

Not much happened for me today. Which is always good, I suppose. I took some sinus medicine last night and boy am I tired today! I slept late and took a nap today as well. I was going to the gym but decided to change my mind. I do have 2 days off I can use.  I did make some bacon, egg, and cheese muffins. They are always quite yummy!!  :)

{Compliments}

So, in my career field I'm often left feeling like an idiot. Everyone I work with is extremely smart. A lot of people I work with have degrees but most of us don't (I'm very, very close to finishing mine). Anyway, in my previous career I worked for a financial firm, handling retirement accounts. I was very good, and efficient, at my job.  I knew what I was talking about and doing.  I was the 2nd person people called when they had questions (that's only because the #1 person was my boss who'd been with the company for 20 years). I was extremely confident in my abilities and capabilities.

After 8 years with this company I decided to join the Air Force.  It wasn't a bad decision, I just always knew it was not for me, not after spending 8 years in corporate world.  I spent 6 years in the AF before being offered a job with Lockheed Martin (I was not getting out of the AF without a J.O.B.).  The person who hired me had has confidence in my own work.  In my career field, there are seriously extremely smart people I work with. For awhile, I was bummed about my decision to join the AF because of my lack of confidence in my capabilities. I was unsure of myself. I felt others were unsure of me. Don't get me wrong, I wasn't the spoiled one in the bunch, just slightly rotten, so I thought. haha

After being certified in my new job for only 3 months (with the company for 7 total), I was asked to be lead. LEAD! Say wha?! That was a huge ego booster. I was still unsure of myself though.  Being lead though came with huge responsibilities (that I was not getting paid for $cha-ching$ wha?). I was stressed. If one particular person was working with me, my stomach would clench up and felt like it was tied in knots (let's just say her favorite book is titled, "Everything's An Argument"). I made mistakes. I worried. I worked A LOT. Did I mention there was not pay raise or promotion with this new role I'd taken on after only 3 months certified at the job?

At almost a year to the day a co-worker mentioned a job in my career field in Hawaii. Uh. Hello. Hawaii?! Yes, please. The contact he had for it was a civilian I'd worked with while still in the AF. I asked him about it but he said it was with a different company. I didn't don't want to leave LM yet since I've not quite been with them a year yet (at this point). He did mention though that a position was available in his section and he thought I was qualified for it, that I should speak with the hiring manager. I thanked him. The next day he emailed me again to tell me of a different position available in his section that he thought I was qualified for also, to speak with the hiring manager. I, again, thanked him for the confidence in me he had. I wasn't looking for a job, but he sure was making me think about it. The stress I was dealing with was getting to me as well. Anyway, a day or two later he emailed me again and said the hiring manager he recommended I speak with already spoke with my manager and, while he wasn't willing to let me go at first, he now is.  Holy cow.  I wasn't even sure I wanted to leave! But his confidence in me totally boosted my ego. I spoke with the hiring manager, put my resume in for the job, interviewed, got the job.

Now, I'm in training for this new position. I've been in training for 3 full weeks. I'm overwhelmed with everyone's encouragement and optimism in me. My trainer mentioned to my lead (the guy with the awesome confidence in me) that she thinks I'm ready. I'm still nervous of course about the new job. What if I screw up? Ugh. But what if I do great? Yeah. After 7 years in this industry, I'm finally beginning to get my confidence back. Funny how knowing what you're talking about boosts the ego.  I don't think I'm ready yet, but I'll take all the training I can get.
