I'm literally on hold on the phone.
Well, not technically "on hold" as that would insinuate my call has been answered.
Really, I've been "waiting for a representative" for almost an hour now.
Who would have such a long wait time?
The Veterans Affairs (aka VA).
Jeez Louise.
Going back to school is allowing multiple things to happen for me right now.
1.) I get to finish my Bachelor's degree
2.) Paying off medical bills
3.) Paying off regular bills
4.) Allowing me to potentially go into my career field of choice
I've talked about it before, but being in the Air Force for 6 years is allowing all of this.
The military gives us veterans (and active duty/reserve) money to attend school.
While active duty you get Tuition Assistance (TA).
As a Vet you use of the GI Bill which pays for your tuition and gives you money for monthly housing allowance (MHA). The military {loves} acronyms, BTW.
There, of course, is a limit monetarily and time-wise.
Luckily, I am able to survive on my own without the use of of the MHA.
Since I've had a lot of medical bills lately, I'm able to use that money to pay those bills and use my own money to pay for rent. Or, I suppose, you could say it's the other way... MHA pays part of my rent and I pay the rest as well as my medical bills. MHA is only 1/2 of what I'd get if I were physically going to school instead of taking just online courses. Once I begin my Master's program, however, I'll be taking one class at the school and the remainder online.
Anyway, I say all this to say I am extremely grateful for these benefits.
The military may not have been my cup of tea exactly (I joined after working for a financial company for 8 years), but it was worth it. I'll never regret joining the military.
Is it unjust the military gets these benefits?
I don't think so.
We willing give our life away to the military to protect our everyday rights from terrorist, foreign and domestic.
That may sound corny but I'm proud of what I did and what I continue to do currently to support the military and our country.
I'm proud of my dad, who still serves.
I'm proud of the people I get to work with on a day-to-day basis who are the Air Force, Army, Marines, Navy, and Coast Guard.
